The team at GreenQueen are all avid recyclers and want to help you better understand the complex system of recycling in Australia. Through providing easy to access information in one place we can give you the tools you need to recycle more effectively. Through influence, you too can help others to improve their recycling habits and reduce the amount of waste going to landfill.
Recycling in Australia is complex and changeable depending on your local council area. Many common packaging materials are only recyclable through private methods where people must choose to take it to a special collection point. Currently, only 16% of plastics are recycled in Australia, and 40% of all waste is going to landfill, rather than being reused or recycled. 130,000 tonnes of plastic waste annually, ends up in the marine environment in Australia. It is time for change.

Inadequate education and frustrating systems result in many people giving-up trying to understand or resulting in ‘aspirational recycling’: people do not separate recycling materials, and put everything in together on the assumption that Councils will sort it for them. This increases Council and company costs to clean, sort and manage waste. Those not engaging in aspirational or correct recycling, throw everything in landfill adding to the ever-growing strain on the planet.
We have designed an efficient, unique, digital solution to the problem. We can help Councils and recycling companies to better inform residents of changes to waste and recycling pick-up, bins, and items through the use of QR codes placed on bins or waste rooms. Through smart search look-up, we provide information to you, the individual about local places you can drop specialised recycling, or arrange a collection at home.
Education sections in the app will provide innovative and visual methods of learning more about recycling and understanding the journey that different items go on when they are recycled.
Sustainable initiative details will provide users with information relevant to their local area. This will empower people to make more sustainable choices in their everyday lives, and support local community schemes.
GreenMate (unfortunately GreenMate is on hold until further notice)
Our GreenMates bins will be exactly that for you! A mate to help you stay green, or get greener. Our app, binfluence® will teach you what to to, and our bins will help you do it. With bins made in different sustainable materials in different designs, we are supporting the circular economy and providing a solution for different types of households. Different designs allow you to choose a style that suits your lifestyle and the type of waste that you produce.
Each bin comes with up to 9 compartments. These compartments are different sizes to suit different types of waste materials and allow you to more easily separate out items which can’t go in your normal kerbside bin. Flat-packed and customisable versions will also make it easier for you to fit this to your lift.
Colour-coding and named sections will mean that you can easily organise by your Council bin, or local scheme. No longer will you have to keep re-sorting your bin from items wrongly placed by others in your household!
